Willem de Kooning: AbEx Master
Dutch-American abstract expressionist Willem de Kooning was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands on this day in 1904. After the Second World War, de Kooning was at the forefront of what was known as the “New York School” of abstract expressionist “action painters”. “Woman III”, “Woman VI” and “Police Gazette” are among the artist’s notable works, which in recent years have commanded among the highest sales prices in history.
