Vivienne Westwood: Punk Fashion’s Beginnings

 Born on this day in 1941, Vivienne Westwood DBE was largely responsible — initially with her then-boyfriend Malcolm McLaren — for creating (or appropriating) what would become punk fashion in the mid 70’s in and around London. McLaren managed and promoted the Sex Pistols, and he and Westwood designed for and dressed them, incorporating the deconstructed street look into clothes they sold in SEX, their London boutique. The rest is fashion history!
