Roy Orbison: “The Coolest Uncool Loser”

Born on this day in Vernon, Texas in 1936, Roy Orbison played in country and rockabilly bands while a teenager, and was signed to Sun Records by Sam Phillips in 1956. His multiple hits during the 1960’s include “Only the Lonely” and “Oh, Pretty Woman”. After a career lull in the 70’s, Orbison saw a resurgence following his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. The following year he recorded with the supergroup the Traveling Wilburys.
