Mendelssohn’s Wedding March Debuts

On this date in 1847, Felix Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was first used in a wedding ceremony during the nuptials of Dorothy Carew and Tom Daniel in Tiverton, England. With the selection of the March for the wedding of Victoria, Princess Royal and Prince Frederick William of Prussia in 1858, the tune was propelled into a prominence it holds to this day.
