Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks

Music for the Royal Fireworks, a suite for wind instruments by George Frideric Handel, premiered in Green Park in London on this day in 1749. Written for the fireworks celebrating the 1848 signing of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle ending the War of the Austrian Succession, the work is still performed today and was regarded by Mozart as a “spectacle of English pride and joy”.
