John Cheever, Storysmith

Author John Cheever was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on this date in 1912, and did most of his formal training as a writer during his many years at the Yaddo artists’ colony in Saratoga Springs, NY. Cheever sold a story to the New Yorker magazine in 1935, beginning a lifelong alliance. Among his notable works are the novels “‘The Wapshot Chronicle” and “Falconer”, as well as the collection “The Stories of John Cheever”, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1979.
