4/4: Marguerite Duras, the screenwriter, novelist, essayist and playwright, was born in French Indochina (now Vietnam) on this day in 1914. Moving to France in 1933, Duras was first published in 1943. Her 1959 screenplay for Hiroshima mon amour (directed by Alain Resnais) received an Academy Award nomination. The film is regarded as one of the most influential of the French New Wave.
