The Beatles Release Their First Album, Please Please Me

On this day in 1963, the Beatles’ first album, Please Please Me, is released following the success of the singles “Love Me Do” and “Please Please Me”. With only minor overdubs, the recording is primarily a capture of the live act the band had been playing at Liverpool’s Cavern Club. In less than 13 hours on a single day (February 11th), the band recorded all of the 14 songs on the album, with only “Hold Me Tight” (song 15) held over for the following album.
