In Search of Grace: The Life and Works of Flannery O’Connor

A writer in the Southern Gothic style, Flannery O’Connor was born in Savannah, Georgia on this day in 1925. In often violent situations, O’Connor’s imperfect characters struggle to find grace in the mid-century American South. Known primarily for her many short stories, Flannery O’Connor also published two novels before succumbing to Lupus at the age of 39. Her posthumously collected “Complete Stories” was awarded the National Book Award for Fiction in 1972.
