DAILY FUEL: Nevermind – Nirvana’s explosive breakthrough

Released on this day in 1991, NEVERMIND is the second album released by the band Nirvana, and the band’s first for a major label, DGC Records. With songs primarily penned by frontman Kurt Cobain, the album was also the first to feature drummer Dave Grohl. Containing the hit singles “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Come As You Are”, the album was both a commercial and critical success, selling more than 30 million copies to date. A Grammy winner for Best Alternative Music album, the record marked the establishment of “grunge” music  as a substantial presence in American Culture, rocketing the band to international acclaim.
