DAILY FUEL: Hannah Höch – Dada Visionary

Born in Gotha, Germany on this date in 1889, artist HANNAH HÖCH moved to study graphic arts in Berlin in her 20’s and eventually joined the earliest circles of Dada artists in 1917. As the only female among the Dadaists, Höch is noted for having been a proponent of a distinctly feminist aesthetic, “which encouraged the liberation and agency of women” during the Weimar Republic (1919-1933). One of the inventors of the collage form “photomontage”, Hannah Höch was a pioneer in art that explored androgyny and fluidity among genders.
