DAILY FUEL: Greta Garbo – A Legend Set Aglow

Born Greta Lovisa Gustafsson in Stockholm on this date in 1905, actress GRETA GARBO was brought to Hollywood from Sweden by producer Louis B. Mayer in 1925 and by the release of her third American movie, 1927’s “Flesh and the Devil”, had become an international star. Bridging into the “talkie” era from silent film with 1930’s “Anna Christie”, Garbo received the first of her three Oscar nominations for that performance combined with her work that same year in “Romance”. Appearing in a total of 28 films, Garbo retired at age 35. She was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1954 for her “luminous and unforgettable screen performances”.
