Black Laughs Matter

Your Friday Nudge — Black Laughs Matter

Tune into virtual stand-up, Black Laughs Matter, and a happy hour with the San Francisco Symphony

For this week’s Friday Nudge — our weekend reminder to tap into your creative side — we have two great offerings, both delivered to your living room from live from San Francisco.

The first is Black Laughs Matter, a live online comedy show Saturday, Sept. 5, that invites some of the Bay Area’s top African American comics to the mic. (More details below.) And our second suggestion is to tune into the Virtual Happy Hour Friday, Sept. 4, with the San Francisco Symphony. You provide the drinks, and let them provide the entertainment.

Black Laughs Matter

The live comedy scene has been devastated by the closure of event venues due to COVID-19. So here’s a way to support the comic scene, while enjoying a few laughs.

For the next three Saturdays (at 8 p.m. PDT), Black Laughs Matter presents Black comics performing live from San Francisco. Comic Chris Riggins, who’s opened for Dave Chappelle and Wu-Tang Clan, will host each show.

Here’s the full line up:

September 5

September 12

September 19

The first 100 who RSVP on Eventbrite will get a free, secret Zoom link just before the show. But everyone is asked to give what they can to support these talented men and women. Donate on Venmo to the account @hellafunny.

Insider’s secret: Stay tuned after each show in the #funcheapzoomlounge to hang out with the comics.

Happy Hour with San Francisco Symphony

Napa-based HALL Wines hosts this virtual happy hour and performance on its YouTube channel. The show begins at 7 p.m. PDT Friday, Sept. 4.

Kathryn Hall, vintner and proprietor of HALL Wines, will be joined by San Francisco Symphony Head of Digital Innovation Oliver Theil and three guest musicians. The happy hour pairs best with one of HALL’s small-vine, artisan wines. The winery makes organic wines, using wild yeast fermentation and micro-block blending.

Musicians from the San Francisco Symphony are only the latest guests for HALL Wine’s virtual happy hours. Check out her July 24 interview with the hilarious Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian Catherine O’Hara, or her July 10 interview with actor Ed O’Neill, known for Married With Children and Modern Family.
