DAILY FUEL: Poet and Author Rachel Field

American writer and poet RACHEL FIELD was born in New York City on this date in 1894 and grew up in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. She had her poem “A Winter’s Walk” published at age sixteen, and attended Radcliffe College thereafter. Best known for her 1929 children’s work “Hitty, Her First Hundred Years”, winner of the the 1930 Newberry Medal, Field was also the author of a play and three works of adult fiction, all of which were adapted for film in the 30’s and 40’s.
